Torticollis, also known as wry neck, is a condition characterized by an abnormal tilt or rotation of the head and neck. Here's an overview:

Types of Torticollis
1. *Congenital torticollis*: Present at birth, often due to intrauterine positioning or birth trauma.
2. *Acquired torticollis*: Develops later in life, often due to injury, infection, or neurological conditions.
3. *Spasmodic torticollis*: A type of dystonia, characterized by involuntary muscle contractions.

Causes
1. *Muscle imbalance*: Weakness or tightness in the neck muscles.
2. *Bone or joint abnormalities*: Misalignment or deformities in the cervical spine.
3. *Neurological conditions*: Stroke, cerebral palsy, or other conditions affecting the brain and nervous system.
4. *Injury or trauma*: Whiplash, falls, or other injuries.

Symptoms
1. *Abnormal head position*: Tilted or rotated head and neck.
2. *Limited range of motion*: Difficulty moving the head or neck.
3. *Pain or discomfort*: Neck pain, stiffness, or muscle spasms.
4. *Difficulty with daily activities*: Trouble with feeding, sleeping, or other daily tasks.

Diagnosis
1. *Physical examination*: Evaluation of head and neck position, range of motion, and muscle tone.
2. *Imaging studies*: X-rays, CT scans, or MRI to rule out underlying bone or joint abnormalities.
3. *Neurological examination*: Assessment of neurological function, including reflexes and muscle strength.

Treatment
1. *Physical therapy*: Stretching, strengthening, and range-of-motion exercises.
2. *Occupational therapy*: Adaptation of daily activities and environments.
3. *Botulinum toxin injections*: To relax muscle spasms.
4. *Surgery*: In some cases, to correct underlying bone or joint abnormalities.

Complications
1. *Chronic pain*: Persistent neck pain or discomfort.
2. *Limited mobility*: Permanent limitation in range of motion.
3. *Neurological problems*: In rare cases, torticollis can lead to neurological complications, such as nerve damage or spinal cord injury.
