As these are not available in all public schools, NGOs for children with disabilities act as home schools for them as well. They help impart education to these children in a manner that is easy for them to understand and grasp. Thus, they play a huge role in the lives of children with disabilities.

There are, in addition, over 100 million disabled refugees in the world. Many of them have been disabled physically or psychologically by their persecution. Most of these refugees live in the developing world, where services are limited. Being a disabled refugee is a double handicap.
