COLLES FRACTURE

Definition:-Colles fracture is a break in the radius close to the wrist. Typically, the break is located about an inch (2.5 centimeters) below where the bone joins the wrist. A Colles fracture is a common fracture that happens more often in women than men.

TYPES:-
Type I: transverse metaphyseal fracture
includes both Colles and Smith fractures as angulation is not a feature
Type II: type I + ulnar styloid fracture
Type III: fracture involves the radiocarpal joint
includes both Barton and reverse Barton fractures
includes Chauffeur fractures
Type IV: type III + ulnar styloid fracture
Type V: transverse fracture involves distal radioulnar joint
Type VI: type V + ulnar styloid fracture
Type VII: comminuted fracture with the involvement of both the radiocarpal and radioulnar joints
Type VIII: type VII + ulnar styloid fracture

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:-
-Pain when you bend your wrist.
-Tenderness.
-Swelling.
-Bruising.
-Deformity.

Diagnosis:-
-X-ray
-CT 
-MRI

TREATMENT:-
-splint or cast for four to six weeks and have routine x-rays to ensure the bone is healing properly.
-Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) to help relieve pain and reduce swelling.
