*Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs)* 
are defect in the muscles and the functions of the face and the mouth. This occurs when the abnormal lip, or tongue and jaw position interferes with the looks or facial structure, growth, and functions.

Causes includes :

•Respiratory issues (URI)

•thumb sucking

•Extended pacifier or bottle use

•Orofacial muscular and structural differences

•Genetics

OmDs results in :

•Speech distortion, particularly a frontal lisp ,reduced intelligibility 
•Chronic open mouth positioning
•Dental abnormalities, such as overjet and open bite
•Tongue thrust
•Teeth grinding  
•Facial discomfort
