VESTIBULAR SYSTEM
sensory and motor functions
contributing to the perception of self motion , head position and spatial orientation relative to gravity.
It has 3 system they are,
1) peripheral sensory system-orient the head with respect to gravity.
2) central processing system-sensory input for position and movement of head in space.
3)motor output system-generate compensatory eye and movement during head and postural adjustment.
INNER EAR(LABYRINTH)
The labyrinth consists of two otolith organs
the utricle and the saccule and three semicircular canals.
It has haircells
like the cochlear hair cells produce minute
displacements
are located in the 1)utricle
2)saccule and
3)three jug like swellings called the
ampulla located at the base of the
semicircular canals.
-Semicircular canals sense angular
Acceleration.
-Otolithic organs (utricle and
saccule)sense linear acceleration.
