Definition : Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) is a rare disorder that causes your immune system to attack nerves, usually starting in your face. It can affect the nerves that control your eye muscles, so you may have trouble moving your eyes. MFS also can cause problems with your coordination and reflexes. Symptoms usually follow a viral or bacterial infection.
CAUSES:
Both GBS and MFS are triggered by a viral infection, most commonly the flu or a stomach bug. Symptoms generally start appearing from one to four weeks after infection with the virus.

No one is entirely sure why GBS and MFS develop in response to these common illnesses. Some researchers speculate that the viruses may somehow change the structure of cells in the nervous system, causing the body’s immune system to recognize them as foreign and fight them off. When this happens, nerves can’t transmit signals well. The muscle weakness that’s a characteristic of both diseases can result.
 SYMPTOMS :
The most common symptoms of MFS include:

Balance problems.
Changes in the way you walk.
Double vision (diplopia) or blurred vision.
Drooping eyelids (ptosis) or facial paralysis (difficultly moving muscles in your face).
Loss of tendon reflexes in your ankle, knee or arm.
Problems with eye movements.
Sloppy or clumsy muscle movements.

You may also develop:

Breathing problems.
Muscle weakness in your arms and legs.
Swallowing problems.
Tongue weakness.
 Diagnosis :
Blood tests: Blood tests can detect high levels of certain antibodies in your blood. Antibodies are proteins your immune system produces to fight infections.
Electromyography: An electromyogram is a test that measures how well your muscles are responding to signals from nerves.
Nerve conduction study: This test measures how quickly an electrical signal moves through your nerves.
Spinal tap: During a spinal tap (lumbar puncture), your provider removes a sample from the fluid surrounding your spine and examines the fluid for certain antibodies.
TREATMENT :
Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy: IVIG therapy uses purified plasma (the liquid portion of your blood) and healthy antibodies from donors. It can help prevent your immune system from attacking healthy tissue.
Plasma exchange (plasmapheresis): Plasmapheresis is a procedure to filter your blood of plasma that may contain harmful antibodies.
Physical rehabilitation: You may work with a physical therapist or occupational therapist to regain muscle strength, flexibility and coordination. Therapists can help you improve your balance and gait (walking) and show you techniques for performing daily activities.

Prevention :
Avoid contact with people who are sick.
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Disinfect surfaces that you touch often.
Don’t touch your face unless your hands are clean.
Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer.

Heberden's nodes are small, pea-sized bony growths that occur on the joint closest to the tip of the finger, also called the distal interphalangeal joint. Heberden's nodes are a symptom of osteoarthritis (OA) of the hand. Heberden's nodes are named after
 SYMPTOMS:
Pain, swelling and stiffness.
Bumps at the ends of your fingers.
Loss of motion.
Enlarged, stiff fingers.
It may be difficult to perform daily tasks, like opening bottles or fastening buttons. You may feel frustrated at your limited range of motion.
INCIDENCE:
Osteoarthritis of the hands is quite common. About half of women and 1 in 4 men will have osteoarthritis of the hands by age 85. Heberden’s nodes are a common symptom of osteoarthritis of the hands.
DIAGNOSIS:
X-ray
TREATMENT:
Non-drug therapies:

Rest your hand.
Wear a splint or orthotic device (orthosis) to help support your finger joints.
Use heat, such as paraffin wax or warm compresses on your hand. You can alternate heat therapy with cold therapy to ease pain, or use heat before activity and ice after activity.
See a hand therapist, who can teach you exercises to keep your hand mobile while protecting your joints. Continuing to use your hand in safe ways is important. Therapists can also teach you about adaptive tools to help you to continue to use your hands for daily activities.

DRUG TREATMENT

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen (Tylenol®) and counterirritants such as capsaicin or menthol are often available as pills, syrups or lotions.
Steroid injections can also ease pain.
SURGICAL PROCESS:
If Heberden’s nodes and other osteoarthritis symptoms bother you, and nonsurgical options haven’t helped, talk to your healthcare provider. You may want to consider surgery.

Surgical options for people with osteoarthritis at the last joint of the finger include joint fusion, to remove worn-out cartilage and join (fuse) the bones.

Does:
Eat a healthy diet: The Mediterranean diet, which is low in meat and dairy and high in fruits, vegetables, legumes, fish and unsaturated fats, can limit inflammation.
Keep joints mobile: Try walking or low-impact exercise such as swimming and yoga to keep your joints mobile without overstressing them.
Occupational therapy: OT, especially hand OT, can help you learn new ways to use your hands so you can continue to do the tasks of daily living.
Pain relievers: Talk to your healthcare provider about using acetaminophen and NSAIDs to help with inflammation and pain.
Therapy: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help you cope with any stress and anxiety you may feel about living with osteoarthritis.
