Obsession

the state in which you can only think about one person or thing so that you cannot think of anything else.

There are five main types of obsessions: perfectionism (often related to symmetry, organization, or rules), relational (doubts or worries about a relationship, typically a significant other), contamination, causing harm, and unwanted intrusive thoughts (often with sexual or violent themes).

Obsessions and their accompanying compulsions are typically time-consuming and overwhelming. People with obsessions usually feel extreme distress or anxiety about their intrusive thoughts.

They may seek to relieve their inner tension by performing a certain action compulsively, such as washing their hands, “checking” (doors, locks, ovens, etc.), counting, or asking repetitive questions

Most people experience some degree of obsessive symptoms, such as intrusive thoughts, at some point in their life. Recurring, unwanted thoughts are especially common during times of stress. However, most people who have occasional intrusive thoughts don’t develop full-blown obsessions or OCD.

Voice disorder
A voice disorder is a change in how the voice sounds.
* Health care providers trained in ear, nose and throat illnesses and speech-language pathologists diagnose and treat voice issues.
*  Treatment depends on what's causing the voice change.
*  Treatment can include voice therapy, drugs, shots or surgery.

Some common voice disorders include:

* Laryngitis
Voice changes related to the brain and nervous system, known as spasmodic dysphonia (spaz-MOD-ki dis-FOE-nee-uh)
Polyps, nodules or cysts on the vocal cords — growths that aren't cancer
Precancerous and cancerous growths
Vocal cord paralysis or weakness
Risk factors

Many factors can lead to a voice disorder, such as:

Aging
Alcohol use
Allergies
Conditions related to the brain and nervous system, such as Parkinson's disease or a stroke
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Illnesses, such as colds or upper respiratory infections
Scarring from neck surgery or from trauma to the front of the neck
Screaming
Smoking
Throat cancer
Throat dehydration
Thyroid problems
Voice misuse or overuse

The posterior interosseous nerve syndrome :

Posterior interosseous nerve injury causes neurogenic weakness in the muscles innervated by this nerve. Patients who have posterior interosseous lesions usually present with partial or complete weakness of finger and thumb extension at the metacarpophalangeal joint and also weakness of thumb abduction.
Wrist drop is absent due to which the extensor carpi radialis is spared, but due to weakness of the extensor carpi ulnaris, there is usually radial deviation of the wrist during extension.
Clinical features :
Patients with PIN syndrome usually complain of forearm pain. Other patients complain weakness of the extensor muscles. If entrapment occurs at the level of the supinator, the radial wrist extensors innervated at this level will be spared because they branch off proximal to the PIN.
Treatment:
*Manipulation / Mobilisation
*Exercise Programmes
*Taping
*Postural Realignment
*Ergonomic Assessment

Difficulty swallowing

Also called: Dysphagia

Difficulty swallowing foods or liquids, arising from the throat or oesophagus, ranging from mild difficulty to complete and painful blockage.

COMMON CAUSES

Difficulty swallowing can have causes that aren't due to underlying disease. Examples include large bites of food, inadequate chewing, dry mouth, pills or food that's too hot. Swallowing is also difficult when talking, laughing or lying down.

Many disorders, diseases and conditions can cause trouble swallowing. Doctors separate swallowing problems into three types:

1)Oral cavity dysphagia:
The problem is in the mouth. Typical causes include tongue weakness after stroke, difficulty chewing food or neuromuscular problems.

2)Oropharyngeal dysphagia: The problem is in the throat. This can be a result of a neurological or muscular problem.

3)Esophageal dysphagia: This is a problem of the esophagus. This can be caused when something blocks or compresses the esophagus, there’s a muscular disorder or there are pouches in the esophagus.

Today's collab topic: stages of emotional development.

Erikson's Eight Stages of Development

1. Learning Basic Trust Versus Basic Mistrust (Hope)

Chronologically, this is the period of infancy through the first one or two years of life. The child, well handled, nurtured, and loved, develops trust and security and a basic optimism. Badly handled, he becomes insecure and mistrustful.

2. Learning Autonomy Versus Shame (Will)

The second psychosocial crisis, Erikson believes, occurs during early childhood, probably between about 18 months or 2 years and 31/2 to 4 years of age. The "well - parented" child emerges from this stage sure of himself, elated with his new found control, and proud rather than ashamed. Autonomy is not, however, entirely synonymous with assured self - possession, initiative, and independence but, at least for children in the early part of this psychosocial crisis, includes stormy self - will, tantrums, stubbornness, and negativism.

3. Learning Initiative Versus Guilt (Purpose)

Erikson believes that this third psychosocial crisis occurs during what he calls the "play age," or the later preschool years (from about 31/2 to, in the United States culture, entry into formal school). During it, the healthily developing child learns: (1) to imagine, to broaden his skills through active play of all sorts, including fantasy (2) to cooperate with others (3) to lead as well as to follow. Immobilized by guilt, he is: (1) fearful (2) hangs on the fringes of groups (3) continues to depend unduly on adults and (4) is restricted both in the development of play skills and in imagination.

4. Industry Versus Inferiority (Competence)

Erikson believes that the fourth psychosocial crisis is handled, for better or worse, during what he calls the "school age," presumably up to and possibly including some of junior high school. Here the child learns to master the more formal skills of life: (1) relating with peers according to rules (2) progressing from free play to play that may be elaborately structured by rules and may demand formal teamwork, such as baseball and (3) mastering social studies, reading, arithmetic.

5. Learning Identity Versus Identity Diffusion (Fidelity)

During the fifth psychosocial crisis (adolescence, from about 13 or 14 to about 20) the child, now an adolescent, learns how to answer satisfactorily and happily the question of "Who am I?" But even the best - adjusted of adolescents experiences some role identity diffusion: most boys and probably most girls experiment with minor delinquency; rebellion flourishes; self - doubts flood the youngster, and so on.

6. Learning Intimacy Versus Isolation (Love)

The successful young adult, for the first time, can experience true intimacy - the sort of intimacy that makes possible good marriage or a genuine and enduring friendship.

7. Learning Generativity Versus SelfAbsorption (Care)

In adulthood, the psychosocial crisis demands generativity, both in the sense of marriage and parenthood, and in the sense of working productively and creatively.

8. Integrity Versus Despair (Wisdom)

If the other seven psychosocial crisis have been successfully resolved, the mature adult develops the peak of adjustment; integrity. He trusts, he is independent and dares the new. He works hard, has found a well - defined role in life, and has developed a self-concept with which he is happy. He can be intimate without strain, guilt, regret, or lack of realism; and he is proud of what he creates - his children, his work, or his hobbies. If one or more of the earlier psychosocial crises have not been resolved, he may view himself and his life with disgust and despair.Today's collab topic: stages of emotional development.

HEBERDENS NODES :

Heberden's nodes are very hard bony lumps in the joints of the fingers. They are typically a common symptom of osteoarthritis.
The lumps grow on the joint of closest to the tip of your finger, called the distal interphalangeal, or DIP joint.
Causes :
*The main cause of Heberden's nodes is osteoarthritis. That's a form of arthritis that happens when the tissue that covers the ends of your bones -- called cartilage -- wears away.
Your cartilage can also break down because of slow wear and tear over time.
*The result is that the smooth cushioning of your joints gets rough and causes pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
Symptoms :
*Stiffness
*Pain
*Swelling
*Weakness
*Crepitus
Treatment :
You can treat pain and swelling with rest, splints, ice, physical therapy, and pain medicines like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
In rare cases, your doctor might suggest surgery to remove the nodes, or replace or fuse one of the joints in your fingers.

Speech therapy games for preschoolers

1. Touch and feel activities
This is one exciting activity that your child won’t want to stop playing! Take a box, a bag, or any container that your child can’t see into. Grab some items from around the house to place inside. Here are a few ideas: A small stuffed animal, Play-Doh or slime, an apple, a ball, a toy car, and a hairbrush.

2. Freeze dance
For toddlers or kids working on more basic vocabulary, use words like “stop” and “go” throughout the game. Explain that when you say “Stop,” your child should stop dancing and stand completely still. You can show them what you mean to help them understand.

3)Tickle fight: This is a perfect activity for children learning to talk. They can request “more” or “stop” by verbalizing independently, imitating after you, or even signing! They may request “more” tickles but quickly say “Stop!” when it’s just too much. The giggles and smiles from your little one will make this a favorite game to play!

4)Piggyback rides: Most kids love a piggyback ride. You can work on having your child use single words to request what they want, like “up.” For older children, you can focus on sentence structure and length, such as, “I want a piggyback ride.”
